Default upgrading brakes

i have a stock car exterior but i have more wieght in the car now, with subs and other equiptment, just more stuff in general, and i have to get my brakes done soon or do it myself soon, but i was wondering how hard it is to upgrade from the drum brakes in the back to disc brakes on all 4 wheels. I have a 1996 accord ex. auto with 100k on it.

If you have "drum brakes" in the back and you are saying you got a "EX".. odds are you don't have a EX... because they were 4wheel disc brake from factory!
In case you really want to do that swap, I believe you need the entire assembly, taken from a EX accord.

It will be more even stopping power, thus helping you stop a little faster...a relativel inexpensive upgrade is the legend 2 piston calliper upgrade with the v6 rotors...i've done this along with the rear disc swap and i can say that there is a huge difference...it may not be brembo short stops, but it's fantastically shorter...look it up either on here, or the how-to on http://www.accordinglydone.com ...

thanks. I don't plan on really modding my engine, maybe chipping it and air intake, but that'd be about it. Do you think i should just stick with the stock brake system?

hey i know im a noob.. but ive been reading arround honta tech... and i just decided to make an account.. but seriously.. brake upgrades arent even worth it. your not running any kind of real mods. so your stock brakes and hella plenty to stop you. its going to be a waste of time. and ittl be unreliable. so its not even worth the hassle. your brakes were designed for your car. so keep them the way they are.

but if ur getting mods.. then thats another thing...

yeah i kind of figured i should, i just have 4 12" subs, amps, caps, and then usually atleast 2 people are in my car all the time. I have tvs and ps2 and stuff in it as well ( if anyone cares ahahaha). I just don't want to kill my brakes, but i need to get them changed soon. I don't want to keep killing them because it'd be expensive to keep changing the pads.. unless i can get better pads than the stock ones. I don't know much about braking systems.. so yeah.

I have a 1997 Accord LX and am planning some decent mods. Including complete fuel system upgrade.

I also want to upgrade my braking system and have been unable to find a replacement for the rear. If what you are saying is true, I could get the necessary components to convert my rear drum to disk off of an EX Accord of the same year. Is that correct? I was wondering about that myself. I was kinda thinking perhaps the system from a Civic of the same year would work as well. It stands to reason that Honda wouldn't change to much between the Civics and Accords outside of the chassis and a few make specific components.

You'd most likely see a bigger "bang" for your buck by concentrating on the front brakes.
Have you ever wondered why you hardly ever hear of anyone replacing the rear brakes on an Accord? Because they don't wear. Not because they're made of some super-duper material, but because of weight transfer while braking the Front Brakes do 90% of the work.
I would suggest upgrades in this order:
1) Carbon / Kevlar Brake pads (Porterfield, etc)
2) Stainless Steel Brake Hoses
3) 11" Rotor upgrade (Includes caliper brackets) (TAS Autoparts)
-OR- If you already have Plus1 rims (17" or larger)
4) Big Brake Set-up
Then, if you insist on not seeing that drum thru your wheel
5) Rear Disc Brake Conversion.

Sure, but rather than recite it? Why not let you look at it.

swaping the drum with disc is pretty much a waste of money, you wouldn't get the abs system anyways.

The rear only get to stop the car around 25-30 percent of the time, it's the front that do most of the work, espercailly if it's a FWD.

if you get the knucle for cheap then go for it.

you are looking for..

knucle, rotor, pad, brake line, porportion valve, and all the joint checked.

Those 11" rotors sure look nice but I would think they would warp pretty easily if not used correctly....I was thinking about purchasing the full set earlier but it doesnt really help when they dont tell you who manufactures the product.

well, this is a very NOOB comment to be making...

Lesson 1: stopping fast enough is critical in the world of driving, that being performance oriented, highway cruising, or sitting in traffic...

i personally have done the legend 2 piston calliper swap with the 11.2 (or whatever size they are) inch rotors from the accord v6...i can't even count how many bad situations these brakes have gotten me out of...whether it's deer running in front of my car, some kid chasing a ball into the street, or the idiots on my campus that like to walk out in front of cars...my brake upgrade has definitely kept me from hitting a lot of things, keeping me and my car safe...

A BRAKE UPGRADE IS JUST AS MUCH ABOUT SAFETY AS IT IS PERFORMANCE!
