Default GSR MOTOR JDM OR US ?

alright am about to get my gsr swap done in my EK and i was wonder if i should get the US or the JDM. However i live in california and i want to take it the the REF and get my BAR sticker. the question is, can i get the JDM motor and use a US ecu to pass smog? and is the visual of the JDM motor different in anyway from the US one?

and your wrong, yes it will pass. It has to have stuff on it that a US motor would so you have to swap some things out.

this link answers almost everything

When I had to go through the BAR to pass my swap heres what needed to be done:
Working USDM ECU for that particular motor
Very restrictive cat. (I really wanted to pass!, you can always remove it after for a hi-flow or test pipe)
Working O2 sensor(caused me to fail the first time)
All wiring done well (No lose wires, everything sautered(?) and using heat shrink)
Also you may want to do a basic tune up and change the oil, I didn't do it but, I've heard it can help in lowering emmissions.
Also, make sure your exhaust noise is below the legal limit (when I went they tested that too)

And yet you name nothing that is required for JDM b18c's to pass. good job.

crank fluctuation sensor, jdm motors dont have them, have to get a 96 & up usdm b-series oil pump, sensor, bottom timing gear with the magnetic pick up.

Default vtech question

would you knwo what would make vtech run like **** when it kicks in? i have a b16 with gsr head and the timing got messed up. but now with the timing right and running good when vtech kicks in, in doesn't give anything to the motor feels more like it takes away. what could cause it to do that? u think the sensors shot?

welcome to H-T joey. As your new you may not know this but please do not jack other people's threads. This thread is about a motor swap, not about problems with a head swap / vtec.

My motor is JDM b16a it is very similar to get a B18C to pass(or any motor for that matter)! I was only making some suggestions along with the absolute basics to pass the inspection, as it was a pain in the *** for me both financially and time to do it all.

As far as I know, all JDM motors are OBD1. I am guessing a 96+ USDM OBD2 motor and ECU would have a better chance of passing smog.

no ****, i said that as a general statement, that showed this only needed to be done on obd-2 cars planing on running jdm motors., obd-1 it dosnt need this change. sorry i wasnt clear enough for you.

get a US motor. saves u a lot money and the JDM doesn't have any actual proof of how much power its making.
