Horsepower and stock trannys? suggestion?
ok here is the problem....
i want to get the car up to 550-600whp next year!
wasnt enough time this year to get their this year.
the stock lsd needs to be upgraded,
do i up grade the stock itr tranny, or get an other tranny
do the lsd in it?
i like the gearing in the r, so i probably would go with the b16 tranny?
what do yall think about cryogenic treating for the tranny?
what have yall done?

shifting properly and 600 whp dont always come easily
i would recommend carbon synchros from gearspeed
it only takes a few mistakes with that kind of power to own your tranny
some say its all user error....
but thats partially horse ****, if you have 600 whp, good clutch or not, the tranny wasnt designed for 600 whp, and neither were the synchros
rev matching will help a ton and smooth shifts, but like i said...with 600 whp...i would get axles, clutch, lsd, carbon synchros
it would be about the same as putting 50lbs of weight on a glass window that was designed to support 20lbs. Do it softly and your probably ok, but sooner or later it's going to break

Might as well run a spool with that power.
The problem will come when the syncro's dont fully engage during a full throttle upshift and you're left half-way in the gear. Thats when the gear will explode.
You might get some better responses from the folks in the FI forum seeing as there are a bunch of 500+whp Hondas, but only a handful of them are ITR's.

Also from what Marshal said, if your hell bent on sticking with the R tranny at that power level, be prepaired to have the biggest left leg known to man. You will be shifting ALOT. Ever consider an LS tranny? Or possibly throwing in a taller FD?

600whp doesn't make shifting any more difficult.

What kind of problems have you personally run into?

I've run a 10 second 1/4 mile with stock gears. The car had a good clutch and LSD, but otherwise was stock. It was no harder to shift than a stock ITR.
Do you have any firsthand experience or are you talking out of your ***? You always just seem to bitch and moan about how weak Honda trannies are, just because you don't how to shift properly.
