Your idle should not be that high, 1500 might be while it's warming up, but at operating temp, your idle should be around 700 (the third line below 100) - You will notice that the lowest line is actually 500rpm. If you are idling at 500, your car is about to stall.

check your oil level, since it was just changed. It should be halfway between the 2 dots or so. When you say you downshifting from 'fifth and fourth', do you mean from 5th to 4th? or from 5th and 4th into other lower gears?

thats an abnormaly high idle...fully warmed up it should idle at 600-760 rpm. Plus in vegas it is still probably about 80 since it is still 65-70 degrees.

It could be many things. And did it happen right after u got the oil change at the dealer or a few days later?

is it possible you downshifted from 5 to 2? and not 5 to 4? Misshifts are not prevented by the rev limiter in such situations, and often damage the motor severely. Your best bet is to check your oil level to make sure it's not the dealer's fault, and then do a compression test to see if you get decent numbers for each cylinder.

5-2 misshift will caus your engine to overrev and your valves will end up bent. Definitely do a compression test, and ask your friend exactly what happened.

hmmm you sound like a dumb *** shifting from 5th to 2nd. who the heck does that, unless you purposely want to mess up your car. i don't know why your car wouldidle low like that. but check your air in take it may be loose and may be allowing more air than needed causing it to idle to low and stall. if thats not the problem your screwed and i suggest you get a engine rebuild.

hi im just curious but it sounds like YOU shifted from 5th to 2nd, and messed up your car, and you used a fake friend as a scapegoat. i'd like to know what you were thinking! shifting from 5th to 2nd( or your supposed friend was thinking ). In fact im sure if my friend did that to my car he would be getting it fixed right now. well anyway you sounded right from your last post, check your air intake. it being an aftermarket part you probably installed it incorrectly or something might have come loose. so i'd recomend that you check that first then do a compression test. check your intake out and let me know how it works, and id also like to know what you or your friend were thinking when you sown shifted from 5th to 2nd.

when you down shifted did the needle fly all the way up to the red part? if so then you're screwed

your idle shouldnt be at 1500, it should be at 750-800

check if one of your spark plug wires fell out of the distributor. just plug it back and bam, back to normal

You can get a compression test done at any regular mechanic shop/gas station with bays/pep boys, etc. It should cost $50 or less, or you can buy the do-it-yourself kit ($20-30), it is basically a pressure gauge with a hose attached and a screw on end. Here is a writeup on how to use it:
