Default rusted valves in head - d16z6 head

i have a d16z6 motor that i'm planning on installing into my car. while doing a closer inspection, i noticed that the valves in the head had some rust building on it due to the motor sitting in a garage for about 3 years or more. It might just be suface rust, its not extremely rusted . Is it safe to start this motor up or will i need to get new valves?

For goodness sakes clean them up first and then inspect them. If you start your car as is with that head you are going to choke/kill your car.

an sos pad should fix that. it would have to be sitting quite a while to rust any more than surface rust.

well i dont plan on modding the engine, i just need it to run and get from point a to b. i am viewing the rusted valves from the intake manifold ports on the head. when i pulled off the head, the valves from there looked fine(under the head). its when i was about to install the intake manifold is when i discovered the rust. i really dont want to pull the valves, do you think i can sneak on by and just fire it up ?

well not seeing the rust, i cant really say. if its just a small amount of surface rust (like dust), youll prolly be alright. but you dont want flakes of rust falling down onto your piston.
