Default a lil pic of my tig welds, any comments?

i am open to constructive critisism as it is a key tool for improvement.,
the machine is a syncrowave 300 and im using 308 rod,, this was at 155a working the pedal.

wire wheel. any suggestions on how to properly prep the metal??

ive noticeed some of my welds are a bit contaminated sometimes.

fishing for a few tips here

I use acetone to prep the metal,it doesn't leave any residue.

What is your gas set at also ? are you using a stainless steel wire brush?

yep, acetone works, dupont makes a product called Pre-Sol, like acetone but a little less toxic.

The weld is VERY porous. Increase your gas flow, use a bigger cup, and lower the heat. Schedule 10/40 should require 2 passes to get decent penetration. One pass will cause either severe undercutting or poor penetration and both will more than likely result in having to blast the material with heat resulting in poor weld quality.

thanks. im using a number 6 cup right now. think 20 lbs is better gas flow wise??

ill giev you 1 tip. clean the metal. jeezuz thats dirty. also a bit hot there buddy. wheres the color ? color is your key to knowing wahts giong on with the metal properties. if its gry you burned off all properties of the metal and thus .. have weakened it

You need to prep the basemetal better and do it in two passes with a lot less heat. If you search enough in this forum you will find a thread by engloid that shows how it's done.
