vtec cutting out
i have a d16z6 motor, i just replaced the tranny and the check engine light came on 2 days after the tranny was installed but when i turned the car off and back on it went away and never came back, but vtec is not working i believe, it gets extremely loud at 5000 rpms but it wont go anywhere and seems as if the car is bogging all the time, every once in awhile i will redline first and it will kick back in for a little bit but always cuts back out within a few minutes or so, what could be the problem here, and is here any way to check old engine light codes, are they saved on the computer?
95, replaced speed sensor, cleaned vtec soleniod screen, oil level ok, did coolant pressure test and the pressure didnt hold, it leak but very slow, and its internal no leaks outside, assuming head gasket or cracked head, would that cause vtec to stop working? and are there any test to prove a forsure head gasket or a forsure craked head before i tear it down?
the resivior was low when i left work, halfway home it started rising and i turned the heater on and it went back down, then i got home and it was about halfway full, but another time it was a little low but not much
was vtec working before it swap the tranny /. if so check the speed sensor on the tranny. if something work with it vtec will not work
i replaced the vss with the one that was on my other tranny, cause it never had any problems before the tranny was installed, i think its just a coincidence that it messed up now

If there is a change in the pitch of the engine noise at the vtec crossover point then its working fine....although on single cam motors I've never really been able to hear the vtec crossover.
the pitch changes at 5000 rpms but it use to kick in around 3200 rpms quietly, but now at 5000 it sounds like its about to blow up and the cold air intake is louder than any other intake in the world lol
