Vtec dosent what to engage after head swap
Hey I took my head of my h22a1 and replaced it with a head of a h22a4 now vtec won't engage. I tested the Vtec solenoid and it seems to be working fine also got a new one and still no Vtec. the engine light is not on i tested the oil pressure and only getting 80psi of pressure when driving around 5500rpm and no pressure when stationary out the same rpm also made sure the oil was full. vtec was working before I touched the head. car feel better with the new head only problem is Vtec won't engage.

If you are missing ONE rocker arm dowel, VTEC will not function. I recommend a closer look at the head internals.

ok will do the compression and leak test tomorrow before I take the valve cover off And recheck the valve clearance. The valve clearance in the manual is different to what the sticker under my hood says. Which one should I use?

sounds like the chassis was for a different motor or for some reason someone put a different engine's sticker on your hood to throw you off lol

Double check all wiring and connectors for pressure switch and solenoid.
Make sure there are no blockages in the oil passages for the head.
I know that both the H22A1 and the H22A4 use a removable oil orafice thats inserted into the block, perhaps they are of a different spec/flow?

the head is supposed to have the oil control orifice in it, i'm wondering if it's missing on the new head

Re: Vtec dosent what to engage after head swap
hey I think I've found the problem some of the primary rocker arm pins were stuck and wasn't enabling them to lock. I am in the process of replacing them with my old ones. Hopefully that fixes my problem

It only takes one. Make sure all pins are in place and moving smoothly... then you will be fine.
