Default Electric problem

My 91 hatch would have zero power after not bein used for a day or 2. Installed new alternator. The next day the speedometer didnt work and the check engine light went on. After giving the car a jump it dies within a minute of taking off the jumper cables. Anyone know wuts up? The alternator is installed correctly. Thanks

You may have a bad battery. I know that one time I had an alternator that blew a battery; it would not hold a charge at ALL. It sounds like that's whats happening to you. I suggest getting a new battery

The speedometer is driven by a cable, so I am assuming that it either fell out or broke.

As for the check engine, do you know what code the ECU threw?

use a multimeter on your fuse box (remove fuse by fuse and check where there's a resistance then when you'll find it you'll know whats the problem)
