Default Which Clutch?

Well, its time to get a new clutch for the Prelude. I am looking at ACT, Clutchmasters, and Unorthodox. I know this is an open question but which one is the best quality (durable & reliable)?

If it matters, It will be going on a stroked motor (in process now). I should be putting 250-280 (280 if I am lucky) whp down. While Im at it, I will add a Quaife LSD and a Jun U/L flywheel. Thanks in advance for any input.

it doesn't matter. everybody will have different experiences based on their cars/level of tuning/driving abilites/driving style/location/etc.

get whichever one you want.

BTW...you can find more info by using the SEARCH feature at the top of the page.

Thanks for the reply. I did search. Nothing on Unorthodox clutches. I am still trying to find a good review of ACT & Clutchmasters on the Prelude.

Don't get anything too expensive. TO me, a clutch is a clutch. You should be able to tell the quality by looking at it. Personally, I just bought an eBay clutch. I think it was XTD. But it works perfectly.

What mods do you have done to your prelude?

I don't really agree with that.. I also bought an XTD clutch early this year and the freakin' disc broke into pieces after 500-600 miles. I was extremely easy on it too to let it break in. So I basically paid twice the labor to have a clutch put in again (went with exedy the second time) and we all know that labor costs on an ATTS equipped Prelude aren't cheap.

Oh really? ......there's a 500 mile break in period. Maybe you didn't properly break it in. But either way, there should be no excuse for it breaking.

What kind of clutch disc was it? I have a 6 puck ceramic disc. I've been over 500 miles. But i don't drive it hard though. Not until I replace my wheel bearing. yeah - i put the clutch in myself though - so free labor i guess.

Nah, I broke it in.. Even if I didn't break it in properly, it still shouldn't shatter into pieces.

It was the standard disc (looks like oem).

ACT xtream with ACT prolite flywheel.
If you are going to change that clutch i wouldn't suggest getting a off brand clutch.

I've got the XTD stage 1 with an ACT 12lb flywheel. I've got about 3k miles on it and it works fine. Pedal is a little soft, but grip is good
