Default Open exhaust vs through the muffler on the 240 HP 1.8 ITR-more graphs.

The dyno ***** was at it again-this time to see what kind of power was to be had by removing the B-pipe and muffler from the equation. The motor posted a previous best of 242.2 through the muffler. Today it managed to squeeze out 243.3 peak HP. Noteworthy is a new dip at 4,400 RPM with the open exhaust, and the reduction of a big dip at 6,600. From about 5,800-8,400 the open exhaust really outperformed the muffler and B-pipe. At 6,600 the open exhaust made about 10 ft-lbs. of torque and about 12 HP more.

Nice!
So it looks like muffler for the street(backpressure=better midrange) and straight through for the track?
BTW, theres a booger on that graph lol...

Yes, but the B-pipe has been modified. It's 2 1/2" from the resonator to the header-no cat.

Have you tried using a race pipe? A 2.5'' piece of pipe about 3 feet long straight from the header?

(b19coupe),
also if you have upgraded the b-pipe before the resonator to 2.5, the pierced tube that crosses the resonator's inside, driving the gas to the second section of the b-pipe, is still 2.25 ID.
So you have a big bottleneck there.
A 200 whp b18c going from a modified Mugen b-pipe (2.36 OD before the resonator too) to a true 2.5 OD custom resonated b-pipe, gained 4 whp in the upper power band with the same Mugen twin loop muffler.
Since you have a 2l high output engine the gain should be much more.

Soon this place will be a haven with dyno graphs showing all sorts of things/trials/errors/setups. Nice addition.

The gains with the 2.5 b-pipe were in the same powerband's part of the open header.

Very impressive results as usual Todd...

I am considering a ported intake manifold from Jeff.. I also need to borrow your majic intake for my next dyno session..
Hopefully I can improve my numbers with those..
