i recently bought a d15b vtec from someone on hondamarketplace. the block is stamped d15b but the head says p07. p07 is the vx head right? my timing belt and everything on the motor says p08, but my head says p07. i talked to a fellow h-t member on here and he said that its a crap motor thats slow as hell and not worth what i paid for it. i bought a kenji p28 chipped ecu from someone local on here and talked to kenji and ordered a kenji chip with 8k rev limit with p08 mapping. when i drive it, at around 5500 the car bogs and feels like **** and wont go any higher! the guy who sold me the motor told me it was the jdm d15b vtec with 130 horses, this feels slower than my d15b7. did i get scammed or what? does anyone have the same motor; d15b with a p07 head? any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

My grandson also has a D15b with a PO7-1 head and I am having a devil of a time finding the timing belt upper cover(cam gear) for it. Also someone who put this motor together rigged the lower cover to work and did a poor job using jbweld and such. Where can I get these covers. I can't seem to find them at all for the year and motor config.

 

My grandson has the same setup and it is a POS. His is in a 91 Civic hatch and it is a conglomeration. Cannot find a top timing belt cover to fit. Can't get the rpm over 3000 and the ECM is stuck in limp mode or it is an injection circuit. No one seems to be able to help on this forum so far. About to give up and try something else. We have replaced the valve cover gasket 2 times and can't get it to stop leaking at the corners no matter what. I am just venting not happy with it so far. Of course it is not made for this year and the person we got it from used the old 91 Distributor and it only holds on with one bolt and do not have much adjustment. So if anyone herfe has any insight it would be appreciated.

 

The D15b is not just the P28(VTEC), there's also the P08(dual VTEC), P06(non-VTEC) and a P07(VTEC-E) versions.

A P07/D15Z1/VX can be a wonderful thing, But it's not made for power, it's made for 45+mpg on regular fuel. (I saw as high as 62mpg with mine when I had it stock)
you need a D15Z1/VX valve cover, the Z6 cover will leak.
that's an ECU problem, not the engine.
made for that year should not matter, you only have to keep in mind the little things here and there that matter.

distributor, I'm not even close to an OBD0 expert but I think you need to use the SI distributor. Or convert to OBD1 and run the P28/P07 distributor and a chipped P28.
