do i have a vtech head??
is there any way to tell if the head on my motor is vtec or not?? its a b20 and was swapped in when i bought the car.
i know that the motor is not a vtec motor but how do i know if the head that is on it is vtec. can i tell just by looking at the head?
what ecu will i need to use if i decide to put a b18c1 head on it.

Re: do i have a vtech head??
look for a VTEC solenoid. If you dont' know what it is, google it.
if you use a gsr head, you need a gsr ecu. if you have an aftermarket IM for your gsr head, you need to disable the IABs in your GSR ecu, or get a p28.

Two easy ways to tell:
- look at the stamp on the front of the head itself....if it is vtec, it will read PR3 or P72
- look for a vtec solenoid

Re: do i have a vtech head??
IABs are part of the intake manifold, they have a solenoid that controls them. The gsr P72 ecu can control them, other ECUs cant (unless of course modified to do so). If you get an aftermarket intake manifold for your gsr head, then you no longer have IABs and need an ecu that recognizes that also.

Re: do i have a vtech head??
so if i go with a diff IM then i need an ecu thats not a p72 and if stay stock IM the the p72 will work with the GSR head and recognize it as well.. what about the Skunk2 ECU i believe it is a p72 ecu correct?
and when people say head work that means ported? piston sleeves? 3 or 5 or radius valve job?
or am i confused?
and looking up products that say it will fit a b18c1 for example the skunk2 IM is that referring to the head it will fit or the motor?

skunk2 sells chips for ecu's, but I don't know about ecu's themselves. Headwork can mean many things, but basically, since you will be putting it on, might as well get it tanked, get all the seals replaced, it resurfaced, everything. Shouldn't cost more than $200-$400 at a local machine shop.
when you talk pistons and sleeves, you're talking about the bottom half of the motor.
Intake manifolds bolt to cylinder heads. If you get a skunk2 im for your gsr, then it will ONLY fit gsrs.
Judging by some of your questions, it doesn't seem you know a lot about hondas. The ls/vtec conversion isn't the most difficult project, but does take quite a bit of knowledge to complete....I'm hoping you are having a shop do the work.
