Accord powersteering problem
yeah I know accord forum, but that place is dead and I need an answer quick. Besides honda powersteering is all the same.
Okay to start off I changed the alternator on a 1999 v6 accord. To do that I had to move the powersteering fluid resorvair around, like bend the hoses and such. So I got finished went to start up the car, and bammm. Powersteering pump started to make a growling noise and resorvoir started to overfill. So I'm like WTF???
I came to the conclusion that the suction line (from the reservoir to the pump, #11 on the picture of the system below) got kinked and it wouldn't let any fluid to the pump, hence making it run dry, and force the fluid that in the system back into the resorvoir. So I replaced the suction line, went to start it up and the powersteering pump still growls, but the reservoir still growls.
So now I'm thinking that the pump went bad because it was running without any fluid for whole 30 seconds tops. Could this be possible??? Or could I have another problem with something else. I don't know what to think anymore, can anybody try to point me in some direction?
BTW, idle jumps from like 1300rpm to 1500rpm, could the pump be putting strain on the engine to make it do this?
Thanks.

1. You need to check if there are any kinks or bent lines within the whole system, not just the line from the reservoir to the pump. If there's a bent line somewhere near the gearbox for example, your whole system will get clogged.
2. You should also inspect your power steering pump and pulley to see if it's
operational.
I just converted my del sol s to power steering by the way and it rocks!

there was a clog in one of the lines, and I replaced it. It fixed the problem the powersteering works but pump sounds like it's going to blow up.
Also the pump got some play in it. I compared it to the play in my LS powesteering pump and it's noticably bigger.

When you say the pump sounds like it's going to blow up, how does it sound?
Could it be that your belt is too tight?
When I installed my power steering belt the first time, it made a humming/whining sound. After I adjusted the tension, the sound went away.

yea i had that same problem. sometimes you gotta play with it and either make it tighter or looser untill the noise goes away

tightness of the belt doesn't have anything to do with it. I tried sucking some air out with a vaccume pump, it helped a little bit. Didn't make much noise, but 10seconds later it's back at it. I tried to follow honda way of bleeding the system, let it run, kill it, add fluid. Then start turning the wheel and adding fluid. Doesn't help for ****.
I'm really pisssed off at this thing, I think I'm just going to replace the pump.
That pump used to whine before, and now it's just fucked up. You can see the play in the pulley when you move it.
