2003 Accord V6 PS whine when cold- but now it is constant
Hello everyone,
I have a 2003 Accord Coupe V6 with a very noisy power steering pump. I ordered the o-ring and I am going to have my mechanic install it for me on Saturday. I am almost 100% sure that the o-ring is the cause of the problem because the PS pump whines when it is cold in the morning and shuts up when it warms up. Within the past 2 days, it has reached temperatures of below 40ºF. The noise is still present by the time I finish my 10-minute commute. I could still hear the PS pump whining, even when the engine was nice and warm. I restarted the car and all was silent again.
At the end of the day when I drove home, the PS pump noise had not gone away like it normally would in warmer temps. It would not go away when restarting the car. I checked my reservoir and I have obvious signs of PS fluid on top of it. Could the o-ring still cause all of this, or is my PS pump about ready to die? The car has 201,000 miles on it with the original pump.

Not sure what you are looking for here.....yes the system is "sucking" air from somewhere. The o-ring(s) are a good place to start.
