Default how to remove a really ($*(#)$*)(#$)# $#*$(*# pulley?

this is driving me absolutely crazy. does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove this pulley :

i went to SIX auto parts and tool shops. no gear puller any of them had or knew of would fit in there because of the perpendicular proximity to the valve cover, the small size of the pulley, the lack of a pronounced "flange," and the proximity of the valve cover and other parts of the motor.

i'm not talking about one or two gear pullers, i'm talking about 10-12 different types in all. the ones with the cages, the perpendicular arm types, the S arm types, etc etc.
further, it's not being held in place by some momentary bond. i did, after breaking 2 more screwdrivers and bending the hell out of a 1/8" flat bar steel pry bar, manage to move it approximately 1/32 of inch. it is just as hard to move now as when it was in it's original position.

i tried penetrating oil, no effect (it doesn't really "penetrate"), a hair dryer to heat it up, pounding from various angles, pulling, twisting, and prying. the inside of the pulley should look just like one, totally smooth with a single keyway :

i don't understand how it could fit SO tightly just with friction... but it does.

Have you tried taking if off when the engine is hot. This may help because metal expands as it's heated.

yeah, it was REALLY hot last time i tried. i suspect the differential heating of the steel and aluminum is not working in my favor...

thanks for the suggestions.

1. i am not retarded!! obviously, i removed the belt and removed the very obvious bolt and washer. there is NOTHING holding this thing on but friction.

i have given up and basically need to remove the whole assembly (which includes removing the ()$*#)($#)( supercharger) and just purchase a new one. there is no force i can cause to be applied to this object that will remove it.

to wit : i found a gear puller that i could engage the pulley with. just by chance the rotating lever that clamps the arms in spins in one of the bolt recesses on the valve cover. i had to hacksaw off 1/2 of the T arm in order to let it turn, but it works. using approximately one foot of moment, i cranked that ****** down on the pulley. then using the same giant pliers, i rotated the push screw on the gear puller. net result? the pointed end of the puller gouged a 1/8" deep recess into the solid steel end of the jackshaft bolt. i removed the puller and filed the end down to a 1/4" flat nub. repeated process. the puller tore right through the flange on the pulley.

this is really ****** ridiculous, and i am pissed off. there must be something wrong with the design of this crap to cause a nonthreaded keywayed object to be so difficult to remove.

penetrating oil did not penetrate even in the slightest, as far as i could tell. i doped it up pretty good on the only available seam.

a lot of tapping froma bfh on that outer lip in the direction you want the pulley to move should do th etrick.

LOL, you tried to heat it up with a hairdryer? try a torch!

Sounds like the pully is ruined. Why not take a grinder and cut some slots in what's left of the pully and split it apart with your BFH. That will teach it a lesson

Oxy-acetylene torch should do the trick

Remove the bracket it is bolted to and use a bearing splitter and a press.
