how to make this legal ?
i have a 1994 Honda Civic CX and as you may know it doesnt have a tach. I am getting a engine swap done next week from a d15b8 to a b16a2 and they will change my odometer for me; or i assume they will. Im going to buy a cluster with a tach for the new engine but how do i change and or have the odometer miles changed to legally match whats on the engine ? can i do it myself as long as i set it to the correct mileage or do i ahve to take it somewhere or am i supposed to report it to someone ? i live in texas , if that is any help.
you would have to buy one from a dealership and its gona cost you alot of money from there and when you get it they wont match exactly unless you stop driving it when they order cuz it takes a week, they gota order it from electronics usa i believe the name is or something like that
you can try this. it sounds good to me, but i'm yet to try it.

the dealor might be able to "roll back" your new one. but probably won't with a totally different swap in it. cuz there is no tru way to tell the exact milage, unless the dealor puts it in. then they will do it.
your mileage on your cluster has NOTHING to do with your engine swap mileage is car actual mileage not engine mileage ... you can not legaly change the mileage when you change your engine the only time you can change it is if you buy another cluster and the dealer can get it set to the right mileage ....
so what your saying is since mileage is vehicle based not engine based, i can just do what the guy who swapped his speedo's out did and i'll be good ?

there is a special sticker that goes by your vin tag in the door jam for you to write the previous milage of the old cluster then thenew one and is signed off by a technician

in the state of texas you dont need to do anything since your vehicle is over ten years old. on all title transfers or registrration information there is a word that is put into the milage field, it reads "EXEMPT"
you do not need to track what the milage is on teh car at all. it doesnt matter what the cluster says anymore.

Your DMV registration will merely say:
Milage: Exceeds Mechanical Limits
And that's what it says for the police officer if he runs your tag... Trust me, I probably run 20,000 tags a year.

alrright thanks alot, now i just need to get a cluster who cares about the mileage lol but i am going to keep track of what the old cluster ended at and the new one started at for my records.
