Default Replacing 5th gen brake pads

Aight got a problem. I usually use a C clamp to push in the piston on the f/R calipers to get the new brake pads in. Well today after taking the rears apart the C-Clamp method didnt work. It was hard as fawk to push in and after a while it didnt work and i broke my Clamp. Has this ever happened to any of you guys who do your brakes? Any method to remedy the problem. Im not trying to go to midis to pay money for a simple job.

Ev.

make sure you release the parking brake. I think you rotate the piston clockwise into the cylinder then align the cutout in the piston with the tab on the inner pad by turning the piston back.

That would be funny if he just forgot to release the parking brake, but then it would be pretty hard to get the caliper off in the first place

Okay my next question, what type of tool do you use to rotate it?

The rear pistons are threaded. You can try to turn it with a pliers but the easiest way to go is to get this http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr...Tools

Thanks guys!

Well this may sound stupid but this is the first time i have let my rears get down to the base pad so the piston was fully exposed. Before i changed them out with the piston barely out, so thats why i may have been easy to use the C clamp.

going to sears tommorrow!!

Can't you just use a large flathead screwdriver? It worked well for me.

Yea when i did my brembo rotors and axxis pads you have to rotate the pistons a little bit then they go in... I didnt buy any special tools, just figure something creative out... screw buying tools. its not that hard at all man.. their PADS.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but you can usually tell when the piston needs to be rotated in (instead of just pushed in), when the piston has two big crosshair groove lines forming an X, instead of a smooth surface. if you can't find anything to catch onto these grooves to rotate it, kragen usually rents out a pretty good tool for a couple bucks. But when you see that X, definitely do not try to push it in or you'll strip the threading, then you got a real headache.

yep thats right. I usually changed my pads out for racing events ect. But this was the first time i let them get down all the way to the end. So yeah the crosshairs where showing. Thats why i was having a hard time pushing it in( because i normally did that when the pads were barely worn).
