150 for the parts for the h23 manual tensioner, should have gone that way.

Exactly...Well have fun when your timing belt breaks, expecially since you bought a used tenisoner

I don't think be bought a used tensioner, but rather a tensioner that cost 94 USD (United States Dollars)

Dollars, dude. I have given some thought to switching to the manual tensioner. But the writeup I saw on it looked like some hacked together garbage with a stack of washers filling a space. Does this sound familar at all, or am I completely off base?

Its actually well worth it, cause then you won't have to worry about your tensioner going out on you, which then may cause your timing belt to break. I did the swap, and its not really some hacked on thing, it's actually parts needed for an H23 motor.

I would have gone with the manual also.
I had a 500 whp h22 until the auto tensioner broke so we are now in the middle of using the manual h23 tensioner

Convert to the Manual, I have read too many horror stories here on that auto tensioner.

Good Luck

Thanks for the comments. I would have to agree that these auto-tensioners are garbage. My car had 58k on it and the tensioner was bad.

I went ahead and replaced it with OEM parts since I am returning my car back to stock anyway. To be honest, I'm not really digging the prelude anymore.

I just got a 2000 SH, (after totalling my 94) and I can hear a rumbling of sorts on rare occasions, usually when RPM is dropping down with no throttle when I downshift. Can anyone confirm this is the auto tensioner?

If so would it be expensive labor to do the manual tensioner swap? I'm fairly mechanicly inept. I don't trust myself to do it well..

It should not be too bad. I would think you could have it done in a few hours. But then again, that can add up.
