Default H22 EG Shifter Box

Okay I have an H22 EG hatch and there is far too much play on the shifter, I was told too tighten the cables to the shifter box. I just swapped trannies. Where is the shifter box located? If anybody has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. I don't know what to do and I can't drive the car until this is fixed. Please help.

need a litttle more info. the shifter once in place should be secure. shifter cables are secured to the shifter box itself by a clip

This is really all I got. The shifter itself has too much play and is very wobbly and grinds when goes into gears. I was told to tighten cables to the shifter box. THey said once I tightened the cables it should fix the problem.

there are bushings in under the actual shift lever that you can only get to from underneath the car. i have had this problem several times with my hatch. it is caused by jiggling the shift lever around like a ridiculous moron. i do it. everyone does it. nothing you can do about but replace the bushings.

how was the shifter installed in your car? is it the stock mounting plate, or a shift box like place racing makes? if one of the clips that holds the shift cable in place (2 at the shifter, 2 at the tranny) came loose, then that could cause your problem.

I have that shift box too. all black and bolts to the bottom of the car? if so, those clips can't come out. the box forces them up against the body of the car, you have to drop the shifter box to loosen the clips. Are you sure you didn't lose one on the tranny end?

Where could I find it at on the tranny? What if I don't have that one where would the stock one be? I think they're on they just need to be tightened.

it can't really be tightened if that's your problem. either its clipped in, or its not. The stock one would be in the cabin of the car at the base of the shifter. on the tranny end, look under your intake and you'll see the 2 levers that the shift cables are connected to. about 4-5 inches from where they connect to the levers, there is a bracket the cables connect to. this is where they are clipped in place.

Well they're clipped in. The people who have H22 swaps in the EG chassis how does your shifter feel? Is it tight like stock? Loose? Please help.

it's loose compared to linkage shift cars (B's and D's), but you shouldn't have a problem hitting your gears shifting at a normal speed.
