Do those two even go together? Swapping a b16 isn't exactly easy work...

do i have to unplug the ecu or just remove the cover and count the flashes? im at work right now so i'd have to wait til i get home first. i have a jdm b16 so the ecu is upside down.

i was a noob when i did mine, before that i only had done a couple of oil changes.

anyhow, just take the cover off so that you can see the glass eye looking thing, it should be flashing. (keep it plugged in) count the flashes the long ones count as ten and the short ones count as one
so long-long-short pause long-long-short ...would be code 21

if there is not blinks then there is not a problem.
thats why you are looking at your ecu, because you know you have a problem.
21 was just an example.

I had no prior experience either, but my point was by that point one should be able to check the ecu, which he paid to have his motor done so n/m. The whole reason I did my swap was because my CEL would pop on daily and I was always checking codes, as my old engine was literally falling apart right in front of my eyes for about a month.

i redlined the car today, then after i let it sit for about an hour while i was in class, i came out to start the car it had a little trouble starting up but still fired up. but after i gave it some gas it felt like it didnt wanna go. i gave it some more gas and kept revving up for about 2 minutes while i was driving and it worked fine from then on. this also happened when i got out of work
