Can you safely remove the airbags, or is there a big danger of blowing one off?

 

remove the negative to the battery and wait for about 15 minutes. thats what worked for me.

 

just out of curiousity why are you removing them?

 

is pretty symple really just remove the 2 screws on the side of the steering wheel and unplug the air bag, it doesn't matter if the battery is hoop up or not

when doing this you should also check if the air bags have back up power supplys

 

^^ very true, also i would take out the battery just to be safe. it only takes the power from a 9volt battery to set off a air bag.

 

Some airbags take up to 30mins to de-activate after the battery is disconnected, even then you have no idea. Some airbags have capacitors, which will store a charge and set them off randomly! I've seen go off and hit people, not a good thing!

Be careful ie.

Don't sit directly in front of the stearing wheel. Recommend you stay about 10" at least, away from the bag of the steering wheel and 16" away for the passenger airbag.
Never try to block them from going off by putting something over the bag.

You should be fine.

 

No! You really do need to disconnect Battery!

 

Sometimes you get lucky! or maybe your air bag dont work!

 

Im shaving a couple hundred punds off the car before my built h22 finds a home. Right now the car is bare metal everywhere, the only thing in it right now is the dash, steering wheel, airbags and ABS/brake units.....I want to lose 300 lbs off of it and am getting clost to that (Ive weighed everything coming out from the seats to the huge pile of sound deadoning tar I scrapped and chisled off the cabin floors).

I figure with a cage and 5 point harness Ill be just as safe as with the bags.....btw its only a play car....

ur obviously retarded. u should watch wat u say before u make a nonsense post. all the sensors connect to the air bag module. theres only 2 wires that come from the air bag module to the actual air bag. its very common to make a mistake and cross the 2 and bammmm. just be careful. unplug the clip before u take em out. the clips are easily accessible even before u start unscreing the air bags.
