helmet for Solo2
I remember seeing it on the SCCA site, but I can't find it now. I need the rating or whatever it is called so I can search to buy one unless someone knows where I can buy it. Also where or what is the cheapest one I can buy that will pass? Thanks
i think the current scca solo II helmet requirement is Snell 90. But i heard in a year or two it'll be snell 95. I think most motorcycle helmets pass the requirement..

SCCA SoloII requires a Snell M or SA from the last 15 years. So a M90, M95, M2000, SA90, SA95, or SA2000 will be ok for now. Snell releases standards every 5 years, so in 2005, the M/SA90 helmets will be obsolete.
SCCA Club Racing requries Snell SA from the last 10 years. So SA95 or SA2000 are the only standards accepted.
BTW, M=motorcycle and SA=Special Application. The main difference is a fire retardant liner in the SA helmets. But there are other differences in the standards.
And, not all motorcycles carry the Snell stamp. All a motorcylce helmet requires to be legal for street use is a DOT stamp. This is not acceptable for SoloII.

I got mine from http://www.ridegear.com for about $65 with shipping, all told. I think the link to click on is Street Apparel, then Helmets, then Open-face. It's a TSH and it is the $53-ish one, it just meets the requirements.

I got an HJC with Kevlar shell. Model FG-3K M2000 (same as SA2000). It was only $105 + $5 shipping. Got it from the guy that runs the CT region SCCA club. All the loaner helmets he has are HJC but they 're the base models that go for about $70. My SCCA clubs has all HJC helmets too. If you want the guy's # let me know because I got look for it..
