Question about VIN and serial number for motors...
I'm about to buy a b18b motor to swap into my 92 eg hb. I found a motor a guy is trying to sell for $1000 for the complete swap. So far that's the lowest I've seen, and he's going to write up a bill of sale if I buy it.
My question is that is there a way to run the serial number of the motor to make sure its good? Or do I just ask for his VIN and check? Also, where would I go to find out if the motor is not stolen? Do I use Carfax, or something else?
Sorry for all the questions, I've never bought a motor from another person before. I've always had shops do my swaps, but I think it's time for me to learn myself.
Thanks in advance.

If you carfax the VIN number you will know the status on the title of the car. In my case the car I bought the motor from was a salvaged title due to an accident. Hope this helps.
So I should at least Carfax if to see if there was any previous damage, just in case there was damage to the front end...makes sense.
honestly i wouldn't worry too much about the vin...if you don't go racing around all the time, and if you don't have a bad record, no one's gonna check the vin on your motor.
