Default hot motor?

whats up... i have a question about this motor im about to pick up its a 95 gsr and i am being told its legit.. is there any easy way to make sure it is?... cause the 94 95 gsrs dont come with a vin plate near the oil pan so i cant run the full vin # on carfax... i was just wondering if anyone knew an easy way to check or how the cops run the #'s on the motors... i mean theres still the stamped #'s under the b18c1 but i dont see how i could use them to make sure its legit or not.... this kinda sucks

ok... worst case scenario... i cant get the vin cause its not like the police demand the vin of the car that a motor is pulled from... but i really cant get the vin # other wise i would have done it already... i was just asking is there any other way other then using the vin # or vin plate for that matter

the price of the motor should speak for itself.

I bought a B16A2 with a PnP GSR head for $300, the guy wasn't sure if it was stolen or not. I bought a B18C1 with B17 head, it costed $900 motor only with no exhaust manifold or ECU, I also picked up a B17A1 for $150.
B16A2 Vin - Wrecked car, legit motor.
B18C1 Vin- Stolen, I pulled the head and left the block in a parking lot.(what was I supposed to do?)
B17A1 had a rod knock.

Price does NOT always speak for itself.

well seeing that two of the 3 motors you got had a problem with them. I would say yes that prices do speak for themselves. And as for the a2, seeing that the guy didnt know if it was stolen or not of course you got it cheap. Anyone would do the samething he did if they didnt know if a motor was hot or not.

I would agree with sochvtec1995. The price always speaks for itself and you get what you pay for. If the price is low you could always assume that either something is wrong or it was stolen, poor quality, etc. The only other options are the person selling the object didnt know what they had/didnt know what they were doing. I would always be suspicious of something that is being sold for less than its expected value.

Call your local state patrol, or vehicle inspection department , they can check through the block number

94 & 95 b18s don't come with vin number plates on the motor. you're gonna have to look it up through the block number underneath the engine code. only way to find out is to take the motor to state patrol and have them run the number. they make you take it there, bcause if it is indeed stolen, they'll confiscate it.

if you do buy it, ask for a bill of sale and all that good stuff.

well if the theif was smart (which unfortuntly most are) he would want to get rid of the items as quick as possible. Who would want to sit on a hot item for weeks upon weeks. And as far as them saying its jdm, if you know your motors then you can just look at the engine stamp and tell.

Also, someone selling the engine for the regular price would more than likely have papers on the motor. If they were legit they would have something on it and wouldnt be rushed to get rid of it as most theives are. Just because they're smarter than the average theif doesnt mean that there arent still things that would clue you in to knowing they are.

-You're suppose to call/give info to the cops and let them know that somebody sold you a stolen motor. People like you are the reason why Hondas get stolen.
