Automatic GS-R?
A couple weeks ago I drove thru some water with my CAI and Hydro-Locked the engine. Good news is, my insurance is paying for a new/used engine. I have a 99 teg GS Automatic. Is is possible to replace the stock B18B with a B18C (GS-R) motor with the automatic transmission? If so what will my mechanic need to do this? Of course this is all assuming that I am able to do this (insurance approves it or mechanic fudges a lil bit). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah, it would be nice to swap trannys but for now i just wanna swap the motor since my insurance is gonna cover it.
Why would you stick with the b18b?

You'll need a JDM automatic GSR ECU to run the motor once it's in.. The LS ecu would run the car but not very well, and you wouldn't have vtec. I don't know if there were other automatic vtec cars, perhaps some JDM b16s came with auto trannies, in which case you could use an ECU from one of those, as well.

Well there ya go then.

You might contact some JDM-importers and see if they can get you an SiR-G auto tranny & the matching ECU. It was available in Japan, but not many people opted for it.

this is kinda true. it will bolt up, but will not run without the auto gsr ecu. a itr motor will bolt up to a auto tranny, but there is NO ecu for it and will not run at all.
skip the jdm auto gsr. get yourself a b20 and then save for turbo while keeping it auto if you like.
good luck and thats awesome that you ins is paying the bill.

OBD2, it will probably not pass emissions. Definitely won't with a JDM ecu(you could just swap it though for smog). You may want to check your local laws to see if doing the swap is even legal.

. Other than that, the LS's are the autos.
