Default gsr motor. si ecu?

when i first installed my 99 usdm gsr motor into my 99 ex civic, we wired it up to a 99 si ecu. i was wondering what would be the losses of using that ecu with the gsr motor. i was also wondering what would be the proper ecu to use for the gsr. thank you

the correct ecu would be a p72. well with an SI ecu your vtec crossover is different and you may run a little rich......sorry can think right now....... for more info

The GSR intake manifold also has secondary butterfly valves that open different intake runners. The Si Ecu won't open these, so you'll lose that. Also, the Si Ecu will engage Vtec at 5500rpm instead of the GSR's 4400rpm. You should have about as much power (haven't seen dyno sheets of this before), but you'd be best off using a p72 Ecu that was made for the motor. Other options would be a chipped p28 or chipped OBD1 p72 to make a little more power.

Get rid of the gsr intake manifold to free up some of the power because of the secondary butterflies in the gsr mani, like stated before. ideally a p28 chipped is you best bet getting rid of the gsr intake mani.

the gsr mani is good to keep low end power, but getting rid of it (and going with a skunk2 or whatever) will free up top end but lose some low end. main thing you have the right ecu in relation to you manifold. you CAN chip a P28 to open secondary butterflies if you know someone that knows how. my suggestion is eitehr to use a P72, or chipped P28 with secondaries fuctions (gotta have a OBD1 conversion harness as well). the Si ecu will plugnplay and run seemingly fine but wont be optimal.

well if you use a OBD2 P72, you'll be fine, thats like any stock GSR setup.
youll need a conversion harness for the P28. idk anything bout the immobilizer.
please search.

The best ecu to use is a p72 i now the si ecu works a little differently.
