New guy ?'s
I just bought a 91 crx si and I just got on this board! I've auto-xed the car twice now and won h stock both times. can anyone point into the right direction for what class and what mods I should do next...Stock is no fun for a wrench guy!
thanks for the help!
thanks for the help!
well I would say that the road race/autocross forum is going to be a better place for a question like this but I will give you my opinion. If you are moving to another class because you like to do things with the car then. My sugestion would be to go to STS2 the crx was the dominat car to have for this class and it will let you do a lot of things to the car without breaking the bank.
get lighter wheels (Rotas!) with Falken Azenis tires.
better shocks and springs. Koni yellows or Tockico (sp?) whites for shocks and neuspeed springs.
Sway bars really help too. Get some better bushings. There is a whole bunch of stuff you can do.
Fender braces come to mind as well.

i had the same car and i would start with lighter wheels and wider grippier tires. because i remember the stockers are like 145 series 14 inchers. then start pulling weight. depending on how much of a racer u wanna make this car there are tons u can do. a few threads up there is a guy who makes carbon fiber kits to replace the moonroof. between the motor and the metal panel i think they are almost 40 pounds, which is also placed in the worst area of the vehicle for handling purposes. then i would go with new shocks and springs. somewhere in between all that u can get front and rear strut braces because they are reasonably cheap and an easy install, plus the gain is pretty great in the cornering dept.
beyond all that depending where u want to go with this car u can strip the interior, cage it, upgrade the clutch, shifter, all bushings, and since this is an older car there are a million aftermarket engine parts for it. and thats if u decide to stick the D16 thats in it.
on another note congrats on your buy its a great car, and also on finding this forum. i have been using it for years and as long as u ask the right questions u will almost always get the answer u are looking for.

that is the only advise so far you should listen too.
get a rulebook (download them free from the scca solo2 page) before you do anything. that way you won´t put yourself into some silly class where you can´t keep up. (ironically, i am ignoring this advise as we speak, but i know what i´m getting myself into...)
that way you´ll avoid conversations like-
you- hi i´m ready to check in. i have a 91 crx si- bone stock with a carbon hood.
event staff- great! sm2 is in run group 3. you´re on light pole 8 this group. good luck!
choose a class based on how much you want to spend, and go get some seat time.
if you´ve only done 2 events, id recommend staying on true street tires. you´ll learn a lot faster than if you jump right into a class on dot r-comps.
and tell your local h-stocker veterans to pick up the pace
cliffs: download rules. build to the extremes of stock class and get some seat time, then move to csp when budget allows. get some more events under your belt before you shell out for the 13x8´s and the r-comps.
as for parts- look in the rulebook for what is allowed, and then search in the rr/ax forum for that part. it´s all pretty well figured out and just a click away.
