Integra Type-R ride height question: Shipping company busting my balls....
The R is getting ready to be shipped to Hawaii. However, Matson - the shipping company is busting my ***** that the lowest spot on the car has to be six inches or higher. I've argued and argued with this guy on the phone that half the cars made don't even have that kind of clearance from the factory i.e. Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborgini, Porsche...
A need only a simple thing done for a simple question. Can a few of you R guys with STOCK ride height give me a measurement of the gap between your front jack points and the ground AND the lowest spot to ground on your car?
Greatly appreciated!

mine was about 6 1/4 inches from the (driver side) front jack point... The lowest point seemed to be just under 6 inches...
good luck

I know that some new cars are shipped with rubber spacers in between their springs so that they do not sit at their stock ride height during shipping. Once the car reaches its destination, they jack up the car, which takes off the tension on the spring spacers and remove them. S2000's are shipped this way from the factory. Maybe someone on here has a pair of the shock spacers that do this and can let you borrow them or sell them cheaply. Good Luck.

That's right....PM walker111, he can tell you about them. He may even have some spares.

Brando, you always make things more complicated than they need to be.
What suspension are you running?
If it were me, heres what I would do:
1. Put stock suspension back temporarily.
or
2. Raise the fing caR.

Sounds to me like he probably already has the stock suspension on. How are you supposed to raise the car if it has stock suspension?

Also only pic he has up that I could find, wheel was photoshopped in color, but thats defiantely not stock ride height.

My GS-R is riding at ITR height with ITR front lip. The shipping company took their time and transported it just fine thanks to a generous $50 tip. If they use wood planks, the car will go on a truck just fine.
Not parked on completely level ground, but my bone stock R, even on RE010s at 33psi, is right at 6" clearance from the bottom of the two front jackstand points; the rear jackstand points are closer to 6 1/4". The lowest point I could reach under the car was the small resonator near the end of the b-pipe.. 5 1/2".
All of this is horse ****. I JUST got off the phone again just to make darn sure. The lady called the Port of Seattle and Honolulu and they both said six inches. Also, she asked how Corvettes were shipped and they didn't give her an answer. WTF.
The car does not have stock suspension obviously by that picture that KOala posted. Not to mention, it's a bit difficult to get anything done when the car is in Seattle and I'm sitting on my linai in Hawaii.
I do appreciate everyones help anyways. This thread can be locked/deleted.

Brandon,
You can get your car on no problem. My Integra (stock) was shipped by Matson without any problems.

It's lowered though. At best, the lowest point is about 4 1/2 maybe five inches off the ground.
Also since that picture was taken that Koala used, the car has been raised a good 3/4" of an inch.
Just curious if these dock workers check. I would think they are too busy to get under a car with a tape measure.

LOL OHH YOU'RE IN HAWAII AND THE CAR ISNT LOL!
I thought you were shipping the car out yourself, then going back there. How often do you go back and fourth anyway?

I don't think they check. I bet it is one of those things where, if they damage your car, they are not responsible because you weren't supposed to give them a car that was less than their minimum height. Not sure what to say but you can either:
1. Slap on a set of CR-V wheels/tires or something.
2. Contact a dealership to get some of those spring spacers (or just get some rubber to jam between the springs).
3. Swap/adjust the susp to the max.
4. Bring it on the boat and cross your fingers (assume liability).
Matson actually does a pretty good job as far as insurance claims. When I brought my STi over from WA, they left a super small chip/scuff on my car. I got $350 for it and just buffed out the 'damage'.

I'm not worried about damage to the underside. There really isn't anything to damage. The front lip is a knock off and I could care little if that was broke.
I suppose I'll have to see what happens. I need the R to drive to work, and i'm getting impatient with having to worry about stupid **** like this.
It's like: The car is paid for the shipping is paid for you ********! Just ship the ******!

They probably use those spring spacers to raise the car height for shipping. We saw a thread about them here earlier this month. Here it is:

Wouldn't keep them in for dd thogh lol.

Are they going to allow you to designate someone to install them?

I would just pick another company. If they're not setup to handle nice cars then f'em.
I had to get my ITR towed, and its pretty damn low. Front bumper doesnt clear most curbs, but the tow truck guy was prepared and had no problems.

I dunno.... I think if their experience tells them that they'd really want the car higher, I'd want to do that.
We just shipped a car to Africa (long story), and you'd be surprised how tricky things can get and what a container goes through.
He should be prepared for a hold up if his container is one chosen randomly for searching, or if the bar scanner finds anything unusual. They're especially careful if they know it's a car in the container.
