Shifting without the clutch
One of my friends sometimes shifts without the using the clutch in his Type-R.
Will this hurt the transmission assuming theres no grinding sound when he does it?

I dont recommend doing it, but i have seen it done with no grinds as well. As previously stated your timing must be perfect!
Edit: my recommendation is based on the fact that if you dont know what your doing you could very easily cause damage in the process of attempting clutchless shifting.

It won't cause damage if you match revs PERFECTLY.
However, if you don't, it will wear down the teeth on the synchros (which is what's happening when you hear that grinding noise).
Basically, it's not a good idea...

yeh , I also can do it at the right revs, but i dont see the point...
Ive ground the gears enough times even with the clutch in a bad misshift! ouch... cars do speak....
Also its surprising how much the teeth will wear down and still appear to shift normally, you could have damage before you realise it?

Im about to snap my clutch cable, and my mechanic cant work me in until later this week(the throwout bearing is making a lot of noise as well). So I have been only using the clutch on dead stop starts for the last week or so.....
it is amazing on how well it works on a thoughly used car.
