Default another gay hks ssqv question

ok i understand that the hks ssqv was meanty for higher boost applications, i installed mine yesterday, and in low boost (1-3psi) i get a fluttering noise, not a solid woosh sound, but a pss ss ss ss ss. but when im in full boost(8psi) it sounds like a whip is cracking, would this be comrpessor surge? i know the bov isnt supposed to sound like a turkey

Yes at 1-3psi you are getting compressor surge, try adjusting the set screw on it.

well they stopped making the adjustable ssqv's, and mine is brand new with no adjustable screw. now, around 8 psi is it supposed to sound like a whip cracking, the ssqv's that ive heard have more of a deeper sound, kinda like a RFL.

it's a 2 stage bov...it'll stutter at low boost, they always do, it's not compressor surge.

a whip crack is a difficult sound to grasp....it's got a whistle to it, not really anything like the RFL which is usually just a big "woosh"

In high boost 10-24 psi it was loud as ****.

It is working just fine. On my friends 450+ whp WRX it sounded like it was laughing when it blew off.

I kinda like the fluttering sound when its at really low boost (1-3psi)....but yea it seems to be normal for that bov.

If you tap the vacuum source from a 1/2" ID hose like a brake boost hose, it will have a more crisp blow off at lower boost. I just installed a GE vacuum manifold that is tapped off the brake booster line and the response is much quicker.

ssq is dual stage, it flutters at low boost and chirps at high boost-

it is not compressor surge
