axle problem? if not what?
I'm having this loud "clunking" noise coming from somewhere up front of the car. I can't pinpoint where it's coming from. As I looked under the car all I saw was this:

In the first pic, you see the lower control arm where it connects to the steering rack. Where the bolt is, there was a bunch of grease and it was flung all around the axle in that area. So tranny side, under side of the tanny mount, etc.
On the second pic, its upside down but in the same situation of the pass mount where the grease is apparent.
Everything else checks out fine. This only happens when i'm below 10 mph and making a turn. So, does this indicate a bad axle?

Yes, you need a new axle as previously stated. The grease is from the CV boot probably being torn. One thing that gives it away is that it clunks only in turns, thats a definate need a new axle problem.
The axle should be fine for a little while, but when it starts to clunk in a straight line, then ur screwed and need a new axle asap.

i just replaced mine 6 months ago wid autozone axles... and it seems like that
they are clicking again now... good thing i got lifetime warranty on them.... even though it sucks *** to do the job again... i think i will wait til spring.....

I think mine are coming out of the sockets on the inside where the bearings are connected to when i turn. Thus the clunking sound and when i strighten out they go back in. sound logical?

hahah! its not a bitch if you have a handy dandy IMPACT WRENCH!!!
Prior to removing axle, soak that 32mm nut in lubricant or liquid wrench. Wait a bit, and she'll zip right off!
Remember.. Don't work yourself to death, let the tools do it!

when u get ur new axle in.. check ur engine to see how level it is probly it was just a bad axle but after i got my swap done my engine wasnt level and i keep going through axles aways passenger side one. it ended up being tranny was to low on passenger side.

the spindle nut was actually really easy to get. all you have to do is remove the wheel covers if they have them and loosen the nut. Once jacked up, take off the wheel and ur set. same with tightening it. I would tighten it as most as you can before you set it on the ground. So far, no noise yet off from a fresh set of rebuilt axles... hopefully that will solve the problem. I know it will solve the smoking problem i smelt from the grease leaking onto the exhaust piping.
