High mileage SOHC Turbo
HEy guys,
So im going to the liquor store last night and as i get in the car i see
Im turboing the SOHC in My girlfriends car, The normal HMT kinda kit. Im doing a new clutch, Timing belt and water pump as preparation. Then i'll do the normal tune-up items on top of the turbo install. Besides a Conservative basemap and a good tune,What should I be keeping mind as preventative maintenance?
Also the search feature is down so can anybody with a high mileage SOHC turbo Check in with an update of how it runs currently or how it ran. Just wana give the girlfriend a decently quick reliable daily driver that she can have some fun in.

Tune it after you get the kit done. I turboed my stock D15b7 at 145K and ran it for 10K at around 10 psi on a T3 before it started to lose compression. Blowby as a result of not running a catch can killed my motor. Run a catch can and do frequent compression checks to make sure its not going downhill and you'll be fine.

This is true for anything under 10psi on a d-motor... I have re-used my OEM headstuds twice alreasy, no headlift so far at around 0.56 bar (or around 8.5psi). Then again, I am using a two layer headgasket.

Boosted my SOHC a few times. First one was around 100k. The second time was at about 120k, and I've put about 25k on this setup since then. Original block, original head, unopened.

ha, yeah Good mileage right.
We bought The civic Ex for my girlfriend, We looked for a while to find a good conditionEX in black with ABS so it had rear disks.
She loves it and it seems to be rather low miles for a 1995 civic these days. She payed like $3200 a year ago when it had 86k on it.
Its nice to see people with some high mileage boosted D's going strong!

DIY catch can, I actually just recently hooked the black box off the back of the block straight to my pre-turbo pipe to get max crankcase venting. Unlike what some people say, doing this does not suck in much crap as long as the motor is healthy.

My brothers car isn't quite that high, but his 1995 eclipse has 325,000 on the odometer. It was a shop car for a mitsu dealership and that put hella miles on it using it for deliveries and misc. trips.... Still going strong though.
My Civic has 158,xxx miles on the odometer, but when I did auto to manual, I swapped in a 200,000 mile z6.. Sounds like a dumb idea, but the car was babied by the owner.. He swapped in a b18c and still shifts at 2,500rpms every gear, so I know my engine is safe.
but anyways, 100,000 is not anything to be alarmed about.. It sure doesn't matter for much anymor anyways, if it did, 90% of the used cars on the market today would be much cheaper than they are.. Ohh well..
