Good idea. We are lucky here in Texas we don't have to worry about that garbage....

Now I understand that big flashy cam gears help accentuate your AEM, JUN, Skunk2, Buddy Club, Tein and Volk stickers all over your Prelude but in reality open timing covers are a liability and if you like to be "sleeper" or stealth

neway seems like common sense to me, very stealth, i never did like the cam gears hanging out stock or not.

I believe that's part of his "low profile".

haha yeah i see that peeking out....pirate, isnt the point of opening up the holes for the cam gears so you can adjust them w/o taking the valve cover off??

this is nice and super stealth, but isnt it more effective to just cut holes?

?? More like function over fashion:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by PirateMcFred &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">an added benefit of running the covers is that you will not pick up a rock or other piece of debris that could cause the timing belt to jump a tooth, snap the T-belt or break a cam and grenade your painstaking built and tuned engine.</TD></TR></TABLE>

In the first picture you can see chips in the red anodized cam gears where bits of sand or junk got under the belt. This is from driving around without the cover on, like every H22 I've ever seen with adjustable cam gears. Once the cam gears have been tuned, there is no reason to have them exposed, except for fashion.

Thanks for the info pirate.

i took the cover off, and soon i noticed a small hole in my timing belt, probably a small pebble got stuck and then run over by the cam gear,

Your engine bay look tight as hell! Nice job pirate! On to the cover for the timing belt I can totaly feel you on that one. I was going to figure a way to keep mine when I went adjustable also, cause the risk of not having it is way to high. I have spent WAY too much money, and WAY too much time on this car and engine to just let it got to hell just so I can show it off or so it looks good.

Thanks Pirate great writeup!!

I've seen some adjustable gears that have an aluminum carrier and use M6 bolts (not M5). Switching them out with low-head or button heads after tuning would be the same basic idea though.

btw... has anyone seen adjustable gears that just fit right to begin with? Pirate, I know you had problems with gears for your "H23" that were really made for B-series. H-series used to be the bastard step child of the honda world, but maybe now there are some good products out?
