Can an ECU (Computer) cause a temperature gauge not to work? I am getting voltage to the temperature gauge sensor (5volts) but I am not getting anything behind the gauge at the instrument cluster.
All of a sudden, one day, it stopped working. I have changed the sensor and it still doesn't work. I've checked for an open circuit and found none so I' thinking the voltage to the gauge is not making it past the ECU.
Anyone ever heard of this?

Nope.
Where are you checking the voltage behind the gauge? Where the wires come out of the harness? Perhaps the actual gauge is malfunctioning/damaged.

Yes, at the connector.
What I did was attached a device called a "toner" at the connector wires to send a signal that is audible at the other end of the pair of wires(connection behind the cluster). This tone can be picked up with another device that is sensitve to this tone.
I can hear the tone coming into the ECU, but not after at the connector behind the instrument cluster.
When I disconnect the group of wires from the ECU that comes from the sensor with the tone going through it, I can hear it loud, but not at the cluster connector.
This is driving me nuts!
