92 Civic 3dr VX b16a swap quick question????

Hi i have a 92 civic vx hatch. I brought a b16a from a trusting mechanic who assures me it is not stolen and i have known him forever. 1st off I would like to know how to make sure the engine is not stolen since i live in NY and have no import papers for my JDM b16a. what should i do if i get stopped? and 2nd question is what will i have to convert from a 1st gen b16a to make the swap go smoothly in my 92vx? Any answers are help. Thanks
