Default knocking noise from the engine i believe?

i just bought this car a month ago and the engine seems to have a knocking noise. btw its a 98 auto teg. im going to try to get a video so you guys can help me out with this. i hope its nothing big. but its usually only noticble at a stop or low speeds. any clue?

It probably needs a valve adjustment.

Hmm, knocking like the sound of someone knocking on a wooden door? Or is it more of a tapping like one of the above posters said?

A few more details please. Does the speed of the sound change with engine speed? Wheel speed? How fast is the sound? Is it something you can imitate with your mouth, or is it too fast?

For example, valve tap/ticking is very fast, and you can't really imitate it with your mouth. Rod knock (hopefully that's not it ), you can imitate it when your rpm's are low.
