OK today im driving and i get to a stop sign and i put my foot on the clutch and shift from 2nd to 1st. But it grinds like hell goin into 1st why is this, my foot was pressed down on the clutch completly. This has happened before but usually only in reverse. The clutch was changed about 10k miles ago and still feels strong. Sometimes when going from neutral to 1st it doesnt wana go in either, I have to pump the clutch or go into another gear then go into 1st. Sometimes to if i try 2 shift at high rpms it grinds. Any ideas on what could be causing this. Im not sure when the fluid and slave cylinder were last changed. The car has 118k on it.
Man. I thought they did......hmmm.....hold on one sec.
Damn. I'm used to messing with GM trannys.
I forgot that we actually have a transaxle - not transmission. I haven't actually taken mine apart. I was thinking of a 2 shaft transmission.
Let me think...........
Ok. First might not have a synchro..........
I'm trying to go off an old memory - there are 3 shafts......i'm trying to remember the powerflow of everything..........
I'll just pull out the manual

Yep. You're correct. Sorry for the misinformation.

our transaxles are 2 shaft....i dont know what you were saying there....
first and reverse are both like that....so dont try to force it into first at speed, bc youll probably end up stretching your cables....

Rev-matching has never worked for me with either of my 2 USDM h23 trannies and my JDM H22 tranny. I have never been able to downshift into 1st. I have to wait until the car is barely moving to be able to.

Me too.
Had an M2B4 before and could get it into 1st (with rev matching) at 50km/h if I wanted to.
Now, have an M2Y4 with Kaaz (which is the reason I switched) and 1 out of every 3 downshifts into first and speeds above 5km/h (rev match or not), will result in a grind.
I rev match all my downshifts including 1st but 1st still grinds. Not sure why either.. I just avoid going into 1st now.
