D16Y8 or ZC?? ZC info?
Hey Guys, how's it going? I'm new here, and I have a few questions...
Well, a few months ago the timing belt on the D16A6 in my 89 CRX Si broke, and I have a feeling my engine is fragged. It was on its last legs anyways, though I did manage a 16.1 in the quarter. Anyways, my question is: I have the option of getting a D16Y8 out of an Acura 1.6EL, or a JDM ZC. they want $1500 for the D16Y8 and trans, though I don't know if I need the trans... Can I use my current 89' tranny? The ZC's price is $1000 (Canadian) for just the motor. I'm not sure which one to pick. I think I can work the price for the D16Y8 down, though I'm not sure if it is OBDII or I, or what. As well, I know I'll have to get a VTEC controller as well. Will the computer from the Acura work? I know I can bolt the ZC in fairly easily, but its an older engine with (?) miles on it.
Also, what is the actual REDLINE, not the fuel cut, on a bonestock ZC? I hear everything from 6800 rpm to 7500 rpm.
Anyone out there have any ideas? Thanks

Since there isnt much info on the net for a y8 swap into your car maybe i can shed some light.
1. If you do decide to go y8, dont buy the tranny. It will not work in your car.
2. Use your stock crx tranny (I used my si tranny)
3. The y8 is obd2, dont wast your time with the obd2, convert your car to obd1 and use a p28 ecu, that is what I did.
4. If you want to know the specifics, email me.
