Original hoses, 8 years old??
I've got a '97 with the original hoses (looks like the originals, bought the car used). How long do these things last? I want to be safe and replace them, cause I really like this car. The hoses look original and have the OEM styles spring clamps and no plier marks on them.
What's the word on life expectancy of the hoses?

Squeeze the hoses with your hand to check for cracking. Honda's hoses last a long time. Had mine for twelve years, never changed a hose. The drive belt looked worn, so I changed that. Never slipped before. Put Napa belt on and the darn thing would not stop slipping on acceleration. Should have left that alone too.
If it were a chevy, that would be a different story. Have 96 chevy, dry rotted hoses everywhere.

I wouldn't toss fate to the gods. They're old enough to have Birth Certificates, for God's Sake.
If they appear to be swollen and overly soft near where they end, replace them.
If, when you try to pinch them, they make a cracking noise, replace them.
But err on the side of caution; you don't want one of those letting go while driving thru East Overshoe somewhere.

they should cost around 110-120 dollars...As for the age when they should be replaced it matters if car has ever overheated, climate condition,, if it is very hot and dry like in AZ , all rubber components won't last as long ,i replace a lot of them living in AZ ,so just feel the hoses , look for any swelling, any softeness when u touch them ...and trust me on this use Honda hoses they fit perfectly especially if u go with the bypass hoses most of them are curved molded hoses..

I think the area you live in designates when you should replace the hoses. Here in WI, I almost never replace hoses.... they just don't fail. Never crack or become buldged or soft or anything.... they just last and last. Things could be different in your area though... so follow the inspection recommendations previously listed.... and use your own judgement. Worst case replacing them all will only cost you money, and cannot do anything negative for the car... so go for it.good luck.
Thanks for the good info. I live in southern Washington, it's dry, briefly hot in the summer, cool in the spring and fall. The car never does stop and go service or extending idling in traffic. The hoses feel like new....
I know this thread is a million years old, but I just got back from the dealer and purchased 4 exactly perfectly fitting coolant hoses to replace the poor mis-shapen excuses for something close to the right hose I bought at NAPA (at significantly higher cost).
The dealer had 3 of them in stock and promised to have the other one in BY 8 AM THE NEXT DAY!
These high priced crap hoses are going back to NAPA pronto.
Moral of the story, go to the dealer for your coolant hoses and a much more pleasant experience.
