Steering Wheel Shaking... need help
I recently have noticed that my steering wheel just shakes clockwise/counterslickwise really fast. Could this be a problem with my alignment or with my tires or something. I know cars pretty well except for stearing and suspension. Any suggestions would help, thanks.
if it happens when you brake then it is probably your rotors but im sure you already know that and you didnt mention anything about braking but just thought i would check
its not my rotors, but ti occours most noticeably at about 20-35 mph... at high speeds i dont notice a thing untill i hit 88 MPH (which is when the flux... nevermind), but seriously around 85-90 it starts the shaking again, but ti is the worst when in the 20's, i just had my breaks checked out and they are fine, i know i am goign to need new tires soon, but im gonna try to make it to march first
i also have been doing a lot of powersliding in slightly wet parking lots late at night, at about 30 ill cut the wheel and pull the e-brake

if you slid out enough you could have a slight flat spot in your tires depending on how soft they are. try switching your back tires with a friends for a while and see how it is.

Is it the front? Your wheels probably just needs to be rebalanced. Mines are doing that at certain speeds. And I know its my front right wheel that is off balanced.
no its not my wheels that are vibrating, its my steering wheel, shaking about a quarter inch clockwise and counter clockwise when i drive about 20 - 35 MPH, i think it has to do wiht my allignment
Your wheels are connected to your steering wheel! so if you have a bad tires, bad rotors, or loose suspension then guess what? Your steering wheel is going to shake!!

Thats right, any problem with any of the listed items will cause irregularities.

i honestly think its an alignment problem, but could be tires, only happens right around 38 mph, so whatever, i just wont drive 38 on the highway

Ok, so it could be a couple of things...
1. Your tires/rims are probably unbalanced.
2. You could have flat spots on your tires due to your e-brake manuvering.
3. You could have blown your shocks.
4. You could need an alignment.
Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself...
Is your car lowered?
If your car is lowered, by how much is the car lowered?
Whewn is the last time you had an alignment?
Do you have a camber kit installed?
Is your suspension fairly new or is it old?
What kind of setup do you have?
How old are your tires?
When is the last time you had the tires balanced and rotated?
Are your rims bent?
Some more information would be helpful for us.

If you want your tires to last until March, you probably should stop your late night parking lot driving.
Just a thought.

good point, here is more info on my car:
Is your car lowered? NO
Whewn is the last time you had an alignment? Not for a year actually.
Do you have a camber kit installed? NO
Is your suspension fairly new or is it old?
About this, the suspension is original suspension but the car only has 70k on it... BUT it was sitting in some old ladys garage for years doing nothing.
What kind of setup do you have? Stock
How old are your tires? Old
When is the last time you had the tires balanced and rotated? 8 Months or more
