Default wierd electrical problem with 94 civic

every once in awhile i will be driving along and when i downshift into second or third gear and hit the brakes the electrical system screws up. not the hwole thing, but just the speedo/tach and the radio. all of a sudden, the second i hit the brakes the speedo and tach will fall off to zero and jump back up again and the radio will cut off for a second. this has happened in the past but isnt conisistent. i am planning on replacing my engine and tranny grounds this week or next anyways (just have to pick up connectors) so maybe that will help. any suggestions out there as to an exact cause of this? thanks.
