Default both tie rod inner dust boot broken! do i have to remove the whole rack to fix?

ok, here is the deal. while changing out the brake pads on my gsr i noticed on both the drivers and passengers side the inner tie rod accorrdian looking dust boots are torn. i am not sure how long they have been like this. also i have noticed that when i go over bumps i get this squeak from the front end. this probably means that i need to replace the inner tie tod balljoint too, so my question is so i have to take off the rack to replace all this ****, and how tough of a job is it to tackle? do you guys have any tutorials/tips on how to do this. thanks

Easy Job. Loosen the ball joint nut, Push the ball joint out with a ball joint remover. Mark where the nut tightens to the tie rod end. Losen that nut. and turn the outer tie rod until it comes off. take of the dust boot, replace dust boot with new one. put new outer tie rod on (turning until its put back in the SAME position as the old one) make sure the nut and the tie rod are tightened as close as possible to the original. and that is it. easy job. get a haynes manual from autozone and that'll tell you all you need to know.

are you talking about the outer tie rod attached to wheel assembly? becuase i am talking about the boot (looks kinda like a cv boot) that is on the rack which covers the inner balljoint that is attached to the outer tie rod. thanks.

the inner boot is annoying, you have to take the outter tie rod off and pull old boot off, install the new one(going to be a tightfit), regrease and install the outter tie-rod and get a alignment.!

yes.. the the outer dust seal that goes before the outer tie rod. the outer tie rod must be removed to replace that seal.. no other way around it. sorry.. but it is an easy job.

i just wanted to update this post. i finally did the job this weekend. it was a bitch, but not as hard as i thought it would be. it took me like 3-4 hours. the hardest part was wiggling underneath the car to take stuff off, and setting the outer tie rods to the right position. i dont think i set them right, so i guess i will have to go get an alignment this week.

Definately get an alignment, because chances are you didn't thread the outer tie rod end back on to the inner the same amount as it was. That thread is the toe adjustment, and if that's even a thread or two off, your toe will be off.
