D16 (y8) Clutch Recomendation
Ok, im getting to the next step of my turbo project which is getting the clutch, ~12lbs flywheel, and lsd.
I'm pretty set on a streetlite (12ish lbs) ACT fly and an OBX LSD (i know the passengerside axle 'defect') but can't decide on a clutch.
I like exedy as a brand, but for D's you have Exedy OEM :: cottoncandy, Exedy stage one :: sour-warhead, and exedy stage 2 :: hard liquor. I mean how can the Exedy design go from an organic disc to a 3 puck disk?!?
Then there is ACT. There is the nice HDSS, and XTSS...
I dunno, im un-informed w/ clutches I've driven my friends stage 3 ACT which was insanely stiff. and thats about it. Any other clutches i've tried driving has been stock.
Soo help me chose the correct clutch for me. Initial Goals: 200hp (so about 170 torque ^_^) but would like the chance to goto 300hp (so 250 tq) in the future after internal work. Daily Driver!

If you're looking for a "best bang for the buck" kind of clutch i think the Clutch Specialties is probably the best buy. Its a 6 puck but still very streetable, and will be able to hold the power you want to make in the future. But if you just want something for 200whp, pretty much anything will work... ACT hdss.
i just installed an ACTION clutch 2ms into my brothers D...it will see 300whp and it is enough to hold all the torque..plus the pedal pressure is perfect how i like it...maybe a lil harder and i'll like it even more...
my vote goes to clutch specialties as well
me and another friend are both running this clutch
mines a stock y8 and it grabs hard
,y other friend has a built sohc vtec that pulled 12.26 with that clutch and slicks
the clutch was so strong i broke 2 diffs in 2 nights, so yes, it can hold that much power

i've never really heard of 'clutch specialties' before. How did you guys who are recommending it hear about them? Also thank you for the quick responces, keep them coming.

I think someone in the classifieds on HT sells them or you can find them on Homemadeturbo.com in the for sale section. they usually go for about 250 shipped for d-series.
The clutch is totally streetable, during the summer i daily drive my car in and out of traffic no prob. The pedal pressure is just a little bit stiffer than stock. What helps take the initial break in chatter is doing a couple hard launches, that helped tremendouslyl.

. Mine's great so far, although i don't have my turboed installed. Clutch feels like stock.
