Okay, I bought ek with a 98 JDM Type R...
This is my first post, and I have done plenty of searching. Help or a point in the right direction would help.
The car has a spoon chipped P30, AEM CAI, Apex WS exhaust, DC header, AEM cam gears. The car is running super rich, and I am wondering what steps I should take to fix the problem.
I know these motors run rich, but to smell the gasoline coming through the exhaust, is that normal? The bumper has carbon all over and brownish stains around the exhaust too.
Gas mileage is not that great either.
Would VAFC help things out? Ignition/spark? I am new to Hondas/Acuras, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The chip is glued into the ecu on both sides, What is the advantage of the p73 over the P30, and will it work with the JDM motor, since the p30 I have is a JDM ecu?

Edit/ just found out that the p73 is a JDM ecu, so does it matter that whether or not I use a JDM or USDM ecu?
Thanks for the "I know more than you" attitude Ken doll and 255...
You two are right, as I said in the beginning, I am new to honda/acura. When I purchased the car I got what came with it (spoon chip).
As far as having a clue, well I am bright enough to seek advice.
Rather than make everyone that isn't familiar with something, e.g Acura/honda ecu's, feel like they sound stupid, spend more time ignoring the threads that you don't have advice for, because it really is just a waste of your genius mind's time.
The only reason I figured that the USDM ECU wouldn't work is because, a friend let me use his with a mugen chip, and it threw a CEL. Put the P30 back in no CEL.
Thanks to everyone who offered advice, and thanks for sparing the sarcastic remarks, I appreciate it.

to answer ur question everyone seems too stuck up to answer, yes, you do need the JDM P73 ecu. if you try hooking up a stock USDM ecu to ur car it will not run properly. VTEC will not engage due to no VTEC oil pressure switch on the JDM motor.
my recommendation tho is getting a custom tune done with hondata or neptune. the benefits are ten fold.
