Default soot on exhaust tip. . . . . Running Rich?

I drive a del sol w/B16A CAI, CTR cams, DC 4-1 header, and an RS*R cat back exhaust w/cat. The ecu is a propseed chipped P28. Now I know that exhaust is burned fuel, but should the tip of my muffler get black around it??? I also notice some little tiny black spots on my rear bumper just above the tip..... Is this normal? Or is my car running a little too rich??? I drive really hard if that makes any difference...

thanks in advance!

Yup..short of a wb02 this is the best check for lean/rich.

the soot is normal to a degree, but if your car suddenly started doing this, you should find out why. what did you change recently? everyone gets soot in their tips though. next time you are at AutoZone look inside someone's tip.

That shouldn't be happening. Your mixture is too rich. If all the fuel was being burned, why would partially burned or unburned fuel be ending up on your trunk? (unless you have an oil leak)

Wrong. I have a WB02 and have tuned it to 13.6 under WOT (where maximum power for a FI car is) and 14.7 at idle. Don't tell me my setup is fucked when it's not. Its a well known fact that test pipes let soot out of the exhaust and they end up on your car.

EDIT: And my plugs are a beautiful tan color.

i am running at 12.5:1@WOT at every RPM and I don't get anything on my car, I don't have a cat, and I never wash it. My plugs look good also. I had an engine that burned oil and it put stuff on my car, though. Don't you think a "perfect" combustion would not have particles like the ones you are finding on your car in it when it is done burning? Catalytic convertors do not "eat" these particles.

Then your fine man. Don't sweat it.

EDIT: I'm turbo mang. I make MUCH more exhaust than a N/A car, therefore, I get more soot.
