Smoking on deceleration - new motor
Alright, I just put my LSVTEC together.
Fired it up, let it warm up, and ran it.
Kind of followed MotoMan's break-in procedure (roughly) as well as the traditional vary-the-RPM's method.
My question is, the car likes to smoke a puff of grayish white smoke when rolling up to a stop sign. Also, it likes to do it when I let off the throttle to let the engine decelerate itself, then get back on the throttle a little.
Sometimes it's a small puff, and other times it is larger.
The engine was rebuilt with all new seals and gaskets, as well as new rings.
My theory is that because the old B16 I had in before burned about a quart of oil a week and smoked like a freight train, alot of oily-carbon has built up in the exhaust piping, and it's blowing out.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
- Derek

Just today hit 100 miles.
Brand new P30's (OS) with brand new O.E. (OS) rings.
Yes, block was bore'd and honed.
P30 basemap rescaled to a 1.8-liter with 370cc injectors (Crome).
Haven't seen the A/F yet. She sees the dyno on Saturday.

The map was rescaled also to compensate for the size of the injectors.
So it's getting the "stock" amount of fuel.
The injectors should be running at a very low duty cycle...

Its prolly suckin in oil through the valve seals when your engine goes into hard vacuum... did you replace the valve seals? were the valve seals put on the correct sides?

Do NOT trust the scalers of crome. I used them too and I still had to do tons of tuning. You really shouldnt of even drove the car without a wideban hooked up. I love crome but there is something funny with the scalers that I never really got to work right.
My advise to you is do not drive it until you have a wide ban hooked up.
but on another note you might be fine w/ the a/f and it might be something else. Cylinders outta round, wrong grit hone, etc. But why risk it!!!! My first couple lsvtecs burned oil like there was no tommorow because I thought I could get away without tuning for break-in. Then I purchased a wide ban and never had a smokey engine since.
