take the nut off clean the threads on the ball joint and the nut.
And also when spinning raise the LCA up to apply pressure to the ball joint preventing it from spinning

i try to chase the threads on the balljoint and castle nut with the right tap and die. 10x1.25 i believe.
and an impact gun works too.

Happened to me 3 weeks ago. The ball joint is most likely shot.
If you want to fix it yourslef this is how you do it. Its possible to fix with hand tools.
1) Get a new ball joint ($15)
2) Get some snap ring plyers.
3) Get a mini-sledge or good hammer.
Take the boot off the ball joint, remove the C-clip and beat it out of there. If you have a clamp or 2 jaw puller, you can use the puller to push the ball joint out of there.
When you get the new ball joint, toss it in the freezer over night. The next morning, clean the area where the new ball joint will be pressed in. Use some wd40 and dry it out. Next, heat the nuckle where the new ball joint will be pressed into.
I used a candle (could not find my torch) and let it sit under the nuckle for about 30 minutes. If you have a propane torch then go to town with that. Once the joint is heated up. Take the ball joint out of the freezer and push it into place. It should go about 1/4 in with hand pressure.
Next, hit it with the mini-sledge or your favorite hammer. It took me 4 or 5 hits and it seated fine. Re install the C-clip. Let it thaw before putting the LCA back on.

Yeah dude sounds like the balljoint is shot. I just replaced all of mine this past weekend. I didn't freeze anything either, just mad use of the BFH!!!. Seriously though it only took me 5 or six wacks each way, and I'm in Ohio "land of rust".
ok- i´ll bite with the ghetto technique, just in case the normal methods don´t work. living in ny makes you figure out how to deal with silly things like rust, and when you are at the track without real tools...
anyway, for the "apply pressure" method, a rigged up scissor jack (the one that came with your car) on top of the ball joint to push on it will keep it from spinning.
edit: my record for smacking out balljoints is (in a vise, not on the car) 2 hits, using "thor".
