Any Ideas? Turbo???
I have a 93 Civic DX and I was wondering what kind of turbo would be best? I kind of want to keep my A/C but i still want it to produce or be capable of upgrading to produce pretty high HP. Also what would be the cheapest most effective way I;m kind of on a budget. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.
yea right here

edit: also you will never make any decnet power out of of a dx motor on a budget
swap 0wns you and getting off a budget would help!!

hate to say it, but he's right. The D15B7 isn't the greatest motor to turbo. The bottom end is too weak and wouldn't be able to handle much boost. It would be way cheaper and easier in my opinion to just swap in a single cam vtec or something like that if you're on a budget.

Yup. Couldn't have said it better. I'm actually doing the same thing, but the next step up. I threw the B7 in the garbage and grabbed a D16Z6. The B7 is not the motor to go with when boosting. My swap cost me only $600 CDN. It had 50,000km-60,000km. Just look hard enough and you'll find a good one. The Z6 is got way better power and it's got VTEC. Just don't go buying a Y8 cause you'll spin a bearing for sure and prolly #3 rod will let go. Go with a T-25 turbo from a Talon. Realistically, you won't be able to turbo while retaining A/C. It's been tried and it just doesn't fit. I'll be running 7-9psi with a goal of over 200HP (I just want to break 200HP, even if it's just by 1HP). To save money do the swap yourself and build your own turbo kit. Just go Z6 if on a budget. There strong little engines and they can pull some great numbers on boost for being a d series.

i wouldn't even waste your time with single cam if you want to have a jump in power just swap it out for DOHC VTEC like a b16 were you can pick one up depending on were you live for about 2300-2500 or even go witha B18C-GS-R were you can pick up for about 3200 or thier is you non-vtec motors I love my b20but i will love it more when i get vtec. turbo is always gonna cost you some money.
If you're just looking for a little extra power and still keep the A/C and what not then you can go w/ the greddy kit... My wifes 4dr EG LX went 15.8 w/ a BAD clutch, body kit, 17's and full interior... I know that's not super fast or anything but we're also up in vegas... Elevation sucks... The good thing about putting the kit on the d15b7 is that it's super cheap when you do blow it and will give you a reason to get a z6 or something...
good luck

There are plenty of manifolds that allow you to retain AC.
I have a D16Z6-T w/ a TD04 14G turbo pushing about 7psi.
It gets up and goes, and for being on a budget I'm very happy with it. I am going with a built motor and much larger turbo in the spring, though.

He said he's on a budget. Besides, a turbo'd D16 swap could be put together for the same price or cheaper than a DOHC Swap, and the Turbo'd D16 would spank the shiz out of the twin cam all day long.
Sorry, i'm a bit of a d series entusiast.
Check this site out. They do some crazy stuff with D series motors.

Unless you're hellbent on a super-freak HP monster you could stick with a turbo D.
Start with a small setup and grab onto a spare block to build.
You can pour the block, get forged pistons/rods, ARP headstuds and have a fairly strong motor.
There are guys pushing 300+ on a D series motor (I'm hoping to be one in the spring. Whoot!)

Like my buddy that wants a 350HP accord. Okay, no problem.
No turbo lag. Umm, nitrous.
No nitrous. Uhh, just give me the money and step away from your car.
He finally told me he wants 250HP to start. Fine. I can do that no problem.
For less than $1,000. Ebay?
