Default GSR Turbo question

Im pretty new to Honda-Tech and i have a couple of questions.....

I am compiling a list of parts for a possible turbo kit if i can make enough money to pay for college and the turbo.....i have a 99 GSR w/ 53000 miles

So far i have SC61 turbo at about 10psi, SpoolinPerformance Quick4 Turbo Manifold, IC piping, RC 550's, 26.75"L x 6.20"H x 3.50"D 2.5" Inlet/outlet intercooler, all the small stuff like a Greddy Type S BOV, a 38 mm Tial WG, and dumptube.....i'm wondering if you guys think that this is a good set up so far...

Also, are most mani's the same size as far as where they sit on the engine....so will most downpipes fit on that mani??

The biggest problem i have is fuel management.....idk whether to go OBD1 and do Chrome or Uber.....or if i should do a VAFC.

Any and all comments are welcome!

Definitely go with something other than a SAFC.

AEM EMS
APEX Power FC
Hondata
Uberdata

I like the AEM EMS and Power FC because they replace the whole stock ECU and they're very powerful stand alones. But I dont want to get into a whole thing here saying they're better than something else because it would never end. It all comes down to personal preference and what you know how to work with.

Uberdata is also good if you dont have money to buy a standalone

i am running crome pro on my 01 turbo gsr and it runs great, i was using uberdata, crome pro is a by far better program then uber, but like with anything engine manegemnt is only as good as the guy tunning it..

Also stay away from a VAFC that is way too limited for what u are trying to do

Turbo is a little big for your power goals, but I would still get it. Trust me, once you start boosting you'll be hooked, and soon you'll be wanting some more power out of that baby (you will need to build it though).

i realize the turbo is a little big, but that way i won't have to (hopefully) mess around w/ MAP sensors and **** like that if i stay under 12psi... and at 12psi on that turbo......350+ is possible!

Yes it is, but I think that's a bit high for a completely stock block. Make sure you get it tuned by a good tuner.

That is a stupid reason to have such a grossly oversized turbo. Get Crome and a 2.5 bar map sensor with a properly sized turbo and you will be MUCH happier. I don't get why you would want to go through all the trouble of turboing and not want to mess with a simple MAP sensor?

I am getting a B18C1 built right now for 350 HP. You might need to get new internals (rods, pistons, rings) for that HP. The walls should be fine at the HP, but once you get close to 400 HP they might need to be sleeved. Also might consider some head work (port & polish, retainers, springs valves) and an Intake Mani to free up some of the incoming air.

So what size turbo should i look for then?? I am looking to make about 300whp and i don't plan on building so i don't need a set up w/ tons of potential. The other thing is, is that i don't know that much about the fuel management and computer side of the kit. That is the problem i've fought with all the time! I was told that an SC61 would be exactly what i'm looking for to make the power i want on stock internals.....

Like i said before...i have a lot of questions and all comments are welcome!! Thanks so far guys!!

there is one concern about the whole project too....i'm working on a budget of $3000.....idk if i can get away with a set up like i want because as soon as you get to the numbers i want, i have to get a clutch and other things like that!! I have honestly thought of building a smaller kit so i don't have to spend so much. Then later......2 years or so......i can put more money into it if i want.....

good setup for a street car id say.. as for engine management id say go with hondata s200b. im wondering if it would make a difference if you converted from a obd2 to obd1 with hondata tho, im guessing it would make a difference tho. no need for vafc or anything really after hondata as far as tuning goes. my 2 cents
